Diabetes - Causes, Symptoms & Healing
Millions of people have diabetes and don't
even identify it because the symptoms develop so gradually, people often don't
identify them. Some people, particularly pre-diabetics, have no symptoms at
all.
In the simplest terms diabetes is a blood
sugar disease. This is a disease in which the body either does not produce or
does not properly utilize insulin. It is a chronic nutritional disorder.
Diabetes is gradually rising out as a big problem in the world at large.
Symptoms & Signs of
Diabetes
Diabetes patients might have SOME or NONE of
the following symptoms:
1. Excessive thirst
If you are urinating more than normal, you
will need to substitute that lost liquid. You will be drinking more than
normal. Excessive thirst is one of the most common indications of diabetes
is an urge of excessive thirst and frequent urination.
This situation arises due to excessive
secretion of fluids by the kidney that makes the body dry/dehydrated, leading
to a yearning for the essential amount of fluid in the body.
2. Excessive fatigue.
Mental exertion or Fatigue: inability of
glucose to enter the body cells because of diabetes, there is lack of energy
supply in the body leading to irritation and tiredness in the patient.
3. Blurry vision or sudden vision changes
3. Blurry vision or sudden vision changes
Due to abnormal increase in the levels of
glucose in the blood, our blood vessels gets damaged and hence it pull out the
fluid from the eye lenses & it leads to blurred vision or sometimes even
blindness if overlooked.
4. Frequent urination
Have you been going to the toilet or bathroom
to urinate more often recently? Do you notice that you spend most of the day
going to the toilet?
When there is too much glucose (sugar) in your blood you will urinate more often. If insulin is ineffective or absent, our kidneys cannot filter the glucose back into the blood. The kidneys will consume water from your blood in order to reduce the glucose, which in turn fills up your bladder.
5. Increase in hunger or
extreme hunger
Abnormal increase in appetite: as the insulin
in your blood is not working appropriately, or is not there at all, and your
cells are not getting their energy, your body may respond by trying to get more
energy - food. You will become hungry.
In a diabetic condition the insulin level in
the blood is not normal and therefore the body cells are not able to get
necessary amount of energy to carry out daily activities resulting in unusual
hunger in order to accomplish the lack of energy.
6. Sudden weight loss
Unexplained loss in weight: This is more
common among people with Diabetes Type 1. An abnormal difference in the weight
is observed without any effort if one is suffering from diabetes. This is
happens due to incapability of body to soak up glucose and frequent urination.
Muscle tissues & body fat will be broken
down to generate energy. As Type 1 diabetes is more unexpected beginning and
Type 2 is much more gradual, weight loss is more observable with Type
1diabetes.
7. Sexual dysfunction among
men
If you are above 50 and experience frequent
or regular sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction), it could be a indication
of diabetes.
8. Tingling or numbness,
especially in feet and hands
Due to increase in glucose/sugar level of
blood in our body, the blood vessel gets damaged & leads to loss of
sensation in hands and feet. In addition to that, patient can experience
burning sensation in hands, legs and feet due to loss of motor nerve fiber.
9. Dryness in the skin
Due to peripheral neuropathy, the circulation
and proper functioning of sweat gland is hampered resulting in dry and
itchy skin.
10. Gums are red and/or swollen
- Gums pull away from teeth
If your gums are tender, red and/or swollen
this could be a symptom of diabetes. Your teeth could become loose as the gums
pull them away.
11. Recurrent gum
disease/infection
As well as the earlier gum symptoms, you may
experience further frequent gum disease and/or gum infections.
12. Itchy skin
A feeling of itchiness on your skin is
sometimes a symptom of diabetes.
13. More infections than usual
When there is more sugar in your blood, then
our body’s ability to recover from infections will be highly affected.
Especially women with diabetes find it hard to recover from bladder and vaginal
infections.
14. Slow rate of healing wounds
It takes a long time for a patient suffering
from diabetes to heal even a minor wound due to weak immune system. This can be
mostly noticeable in case of bladder and vaginal infections in woman.
15. Weight gain
Weight gain or fat gain might be the result
of the above symptom (intense hunger).
More symptoms:
16. Sores that is slow to heal.
