Natural Home Remedies for Burping (Belching), Gas, Bloating



Belching and burping are very common in gastric infection. Burping or Belching is the process of releasing the gas in the digestive tract through the mouth. Burping is caused by numerous factors that affect the normal process of digestion and there are several possible causes of indigestion that are related to food and the most common causes of burping include:

Eating too much at one sitting, Spicy, greasy and high-fat food, Alcohol consumption, Carbonated beverages, Smoking and tobacco, Medicines such as antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and aspirin, Chocolate, Eating too rapidly, Eating while emotionally upset, Gallstones, Peptic ulcers, Stomach inflammation (gastritis) etc.


1. Asafoetida-Fennel

Combination of Asafoetida and fennel is best remedy for burping; therefore you can add these two spices in your regular diet to prevent belching and acidity. This mixture doesn’t cause any side effect to your body.

Take a tablespoon of roasted or raw fennel seeds and add 1/4th teaspoon asafoetida and 1 tablespoon honey to it. You can have it 2-3 times a day if you have severe burps


2. Ginger

Ginger is a most popular and effective home remedy to prevent excessive gas. It has carminative properties that help relax the gastrointestinal muscles, thus prevents gas, burping, vomiting and bloating. Ginger also improves digestion, relaxes the stomach and relieves abdominal pain in few minutes.

1.      Preparing ginger tea: Boil 1 tablespoon of smashed ginger in 1 ½ cup of water and boil it for 8-10 minutes. Then strain the water and add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and drink it. Repeat this 2-3 times a day if needed.

2.      Alternatively, chew a piece of ginger with some jaggery 2-3 times a day and get rid of stomach problems which cause burping. 


3. Garlic

Crush 2-3 cloves of garlic and consume it with half cup of warm water. As raw garlic is unpleasant to eat, it can be added to the food like soup, tomato soup.


4. Cloves

Smash 3 cloves and mix it with 1 tablespoon of honey and consume it to get rid of burping.


5. Cardamom

Chew Cardamom following a meal in order to prevent burping. Cardamom has pleasant flavor and hence do not need to be mix in food.


7. Apple cider vinegar

Add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to glass of water; add 1 tablespoon honey to it. Mix it well and drink this mixture before your meals. You can repeat this twice a day.


8. Yoghurt or butter milk

Probiotics such as yoghurt and butter milk contains good bacteria which develops digestion, promotes overall good health and cultivates good bacteria in our stomach. A healthy digestive system prevents excess growth of gas inside our digestive tract. 


In fact, people who suffer from chronic belching must consume half cup of yoghurt after each meal. A more diluted version of yoghurt and butter milk is best for prevention of belching.

Consume half bowl of fresh yoghurt or butter milk right away after meal; it will help to get rid of various digestive problems including burping.  Take half cup of yoghurt or butter milk and add pinch of cayenne pepper and few cumin seeds


9. Basil

Antispasmodic and carminative properties of basil help drive out gases and alleviates other gastrointestinal discomforts like stomach pain, indigestion and bloating.

1.      Chew 5-7 fresh basil leaves to prevent belching. Repeat this 2-3 times a day.
2.      Crush 5-6 basil leaves with 1 garlic clove and add 1 teaspoon of honey to this mixture and consume it. Do this 2-3 time a day in require.
3.      Add 6-7 smashed basil leaves in your regular or herbal tea.
4.      Prepare basil tea: Boil 6-7 basil leaves in cup of hot water for about 6-8 minutes. Strain the water, add 1 tablespoon of honey to it and drink slowly.


10. Peppermint

Peppermint has antispasmodic property that helps relax the digestive tract, thus reduces the creation of gas in the stomach. Peppermint also improves the flow of bile and strengthens digestive system.

Boil 5-6 fresh or dried peppermint leaves in 1 ½ cup of water for 10 minutes and then strain it. Add 1 teaspoon of honey to it and drink it. Repeat this 2-3 times a day.

Caution: People suffering from gallstones or have a history of gallstones must not use this herb.
