Nausea is a condition that troubles us every now and then. You tend to suffer from dizziness, sweating, excessive hot feeling and vomiting when you are nauseated, although you may not necessarily vomit.

Typically, nausea indicates that there is an imbalance in the body. Often, it is nothing more serious than the body’s negative reaction to something that you have eaten and the body needs to eliminate.

Frequently, women tend to have nausea during the beginning stages of pregnancy. It may also manifest as an adverse effect of treatment for cancer. Usually, nausea is not a severe condition. However, it may drain your energy and induce fatigue. Many a time, nausea can be relieved by the use of natural remedies that can be made at home.

1.      Take a handful of ice cubes and wrap them in a soft and clean towel. Place the towel on the back of your neck, across the throat, or on the forehead for some time. You will find that you are feeling better presently.

2.      Instead, you may dip a soft cotton cloth in cold water and then wring out the cloth to remove the excess water. Place the cloth on the throat, the forehead, or the neck for 5-10 minutes to decrease the severity of nausea.



2. Lemon

Lemon also eases nausea. The neutralizing acids in lemon help create bicarbonates in the stomach that in turn treat nausea due to the flu, gas, bloating, heartburn and upset stomach. Also, lemon aides in balancing the body’s natural pH levels.

      1.      Mix one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Consume this mixture slowly for instant relief from nausea.

      2.      Mix 2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and half teaspoon of salt in lukewarm water. Inhale the aroma of this water for a few minutes and then slowly drink it. But if you have high blood pressure, then don’t add the salt.

3.      Cut medium size lemon into two halves and sprinkle pinch of salt on one half. Hold one half close to your nose and inhale the aroma slowly.


3. Baking soda

Mix 2 tablespoon of lemon juice, one tablespoon of sugar and half teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water. Drink this mixture slowly for immediate relief from nausea.

Note: Pregnant ladies do not try this remedy at all.


4. Ginger

Ginger is one of the best home remedies for nausea. Active components like volatile oils and pungent phenol compounds present in ginger root impact the nervous system, stomach and intestines, which in turn aides in reducing nausea. 

Ginger is effective in both pregnancy-related nausea and chemotherapy-induced nausea.

1.      Add one teaspoon of grated or smashed ginger root to 1 ½ cup of boiling water, boil it for 10-12 minutes on slow flame. Strain the water and add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice to improve taste. Drink this warm mixture slowly. Don’t drink more than 3 cups of ginger tea in a day.



2.      Or mix 1 teaspoon of ginger juice or paste with one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, mint juice and one tablespoon of honey. Consume this combination every few hours until you feel better.

3.      You can also chew small piece of raw ginger or ginger pickle or a ginger candy to alleviate nausea symptoms.



Note: If you are taking anti-coagulant medicines or aspirin or any other similar drugs, then avoid ginger remedies.


5. Raspberries

Eat a bowl of raspberries early in the morning to get rid of nausea which is triggered due to morning sickness.



6. Wheatgerm

Wheatgerm is another helpful home remedy that you can use to get relief from nausea. All you have to do is add 1-2 teaspoon of wheatgerm in warm milk, mix it well and drink the mixture once or twice a day (as per requirement) to get rid of nausea which is mostly triggered due to morning sickness.


7. Cinnamon

Cinnamon contains chemicals called catechins that help mitigate sickness. Furthermore, cinnamon is exceptionally soothing for stomach irritation and thus it helps treat nausea caused by acid reflux, indigestion and gas. It helps treat vomiting too.

1.      Boil ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder or small piece of cinnamon stick in 2 cup of water until water reduce half.
2.      Strain the water.  You can add 1 tablespoon honey and/or pinch of black pepper salt for taste.
3.      Drink this water slowly to alleviate nausea.

It is not advisable for one to remain fasting for more than three hours at a time. It is good to eat smaller meals and not to overeat as it might lead to nausea or even bloating.

5. Vitamin B6

1.    Place one of your hands on the other hand's wrist and measure three fingers' width from the crease between the hand and arm.

2.    At the point where the third finger is, remove pressure until you are simply touching the skin and feel calmly for a small dip. Now, pressing this dip intensely will make this point feel bruised.

3.    The button on the wristband should be placed at this point on both wrists. 

4.    You can wear the wristbands once you wake up in the morning before even getting out of the bed.

5.    Whenever there is a pang of nausea, you can press the button for about 20 - 30 times every second on both the wrists.

6.    Even if you forget to wear the wristbands, pressing these two points will be helpful. You can also ask someone else to do this.
