Gelatin - Tips, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings
Here are
some important tips you must follow while using gelatin. Gelatin has few side
effects, so you need know about it. Here we go..
Remember - Dissolve it
Both collagen hydrolysate and gelatin must be
properly dissolved in liquid like water or juices. This is particularly essential
for regular
gelatin
which is only hot water soluble.
Risk factors - Don’t eat too
much
Eating
too much and the wrong kind of gelatin can cause digestive problems such as
constipation, bloating, burping and
lack of appetite.
How much should you eat?
Eating
too much gelatin too quickly can distress your body, and do more harm than
good, therefore start with a small amount of gelatin half to 1 tablespoon per
day and then slowly raise your dose every few weeks as tolerated.
Gelatin
can make up to about 20-30% of your total protein intake, so for the normal
person that is about 3-5 tablespoon per day. 1 tablespoon contains 5-6 grams of
protein.
Choose right one.
1. Regular gelatin
Regular
gelatin is hot water soluble, and it is harder to digest. Use this in small
amount.
2. Collagen hydrolysate
Collagen
hydrolysate is cold water soluble, it is easier to digest than the regular
gelatin. This will be a good choice for using as a protein powder.
