7. Stress
In
today's generation stress
has become synonymous to life style. We people stress a lot and why not?
Difficult job, difficult people isn't it? And all of us know that this stress
is eating us from the inside. But did you know that stress can also be one of
the reasons for premature birth?
Well it
does. The cortisol and epinephrine from stress increase the placental release
of a hormone called corticotropin-releasing hormone. This induces estriol and
prostaglandins, two markers of preterm delivery.
Pregnancy
is already not an easy thing to go through with. The body undergoes so many
changes and the immune system of the body is already on high alert. Adding to
that if a woman is stressed then it also enhances the inflammation of the immune system.
This makes it hard for the body to cope up with pregnancy properly. Mother may
go into a state of panic or shock because of chronic stress.
Plus,
mothers who are stressed are more likely to cope with risky behaviors. This can
be anything from lack of sleep to unhealthy eating to taking alcohol. All these
things will eventually take a toll on the mothers as well as the child's body.
So it is very important for the mother to have a healthy lifestyle and a proper
support system.
8. Family History
Your
family history can also tell you whether you are going to have premature labor
or not. If you were a preemie yourself then the risk of you having a preterm
labor is very high. If any of your siblings were born prematurely then also it
posses the chance of you giving birth to a premature child.
Your
race can also play a crucial part in deciding how much threat you possess of
having a preterm labor. It has been found that black women have a 17 percent of
risk of a preterm birth, while white women have a chance of 10 percent. So you
see, genes also play a part in deciding the risk of you having premature baby.
Thus if you inherit these genes of have a family history of preterm labor then
keep visiting your doctor and keep all the symptoms and their solutions in
mind.
6. Alcohol and Cigarettes
The
above mentioned reasons may not be in our control fully but these habits surely
are. Alcohol and smoke from cigarettes are poisonous for both you and your
baby. These things come under lifestyle and habits. A smart check on these
habits might prove useful in avoiding premature birth.

Did you
know that smoking can cause so many problems such as low birth weight,
placental problems, and death. But the bright side of this situation is that
you can avoid it. About 13 percent of pregnant women in the United States still
smoke, unfortunately. But it is never too late to do something good. If you
quit before getting pregnant, there is practically no risk of premature birth
from smoking.
And
yes!! Second hand smoking. Do not forget this, it is as dangerous as smoking
yourself. So try and avoid it as much as possible.
If you
are an alcoholic or even a happy hour sort of drinker, curtail this habit. More
than one drink per day can be responsible for preterm delivery. Also, after
getting pregnant there are no safe margins. So avoid drinking when you are
pregnant. Even drinking as early as for 4 to 6 weeks pregnant can prove
dangerous for you and your baby. Problems like brain damage, birth defects, and
fetal alcohol spectrum disorders are more likely if you continue drinking while
being pregnant.
