Does Chocolate Cause Acne? What the Science Says?


Treating and preventing acne and its breakouts is somehow difficult. There is direct connection between acne and our diet. Boys and especially girls often ask "Does chocolate give us pimples?" If you’re a chocolate lover, you likely scared when you found out that your favourite chocolate might actually be the offender behind your pimples and acne.

Chocolate has long been labelled a direct cause of pimples and acne, but the modern science doesn’t fully support this claim. Though, there is a link between acne and our diet; both dairy products and sugar have been supposed to cause fluctuations in blood sugar and hormonal levels in men and women. Dairy and sugar can increase cell and sebum production, which can lead to acne, pimples and severe breakouts. 

Does Chocolate Cause Acne?

Does chocolates cause acne, pimples and is cutting back on chocolate an effective acne solution? The honest answer is, “Probably not.” 

Increased sebum production in the body causes acne and high-fat, high-sugar diets increases the production of sebum.

According to dermatologists and some studies, there are very little confirmative evidences that eating chocolate is directly linked to acne, pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and inflammation.

So what should you do? Simply eat a well-balanced diet and chocolates can be part of a well-balanced diet, if we eat high-quality chocolates in moderate amount.
Study your own skin patterns. Have a chocolate bar and examine how your skin reacts in the next few days.
