Why Does Period Blood Smell? Is that abnormal? Home remedies for Menstrual-Vaginal Odor - Part 2
Go for
chemical free
Using chemical free menstrual products can always be
considered as a good option. Cloth pads may look a little old fashioned but
they do allow your sensitive parts to remain dry and chemical free. Dryness is
the key to happiness. Isn’t it?? Also menstrual cups are a great substitute for
pads and tampons because they allow your vagina to self clean and that too
without exposing it to the air. Interesting!!
Avoid wet
wipes or baby wipes
People are in a habit of using wet wipes or baby wipes.
Remember baby wipes are made so that they are tender to baby's face. Now your
vagina is a whole different level for them. Please remember your genitals
become extra sensitive during this phase and it can’t tolerate any chemical as
it is already dealing with imbalance of pH in blood. You can replace wipes with
dampened toiled paper as a healthy habit.
Be prepared
for Emergencies
It is never bad to keep
an extra pair
of panties with you.
In this busy routine, it often happens that
we forget to change our menstrual products. Also at times pads, menstrual cups
and tampons can leak (nothing is fool proof, except you!!). Whenever anything
like this happens, leave everything and change into a fresh pair of panties as
soon as possible. It will keep up you hygiene, comfort and also keep away the
odour which might have soaked into the soiled underwear.
Wearing cotton underwear is also recommended as it helps keeping up the ventilation (if you know what i mean). Also it will help you stay dry down there. Avoid using synthetic underwear as it would trap moisture and allow more bacterial growth.

Do not douche
Douching during periods disrupts
the natural bacterial balance in the vagina; hence, do not douche.
Now once the balance is gone, it increases the possibility of various
infections and other related health issues like
yeast infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and problems during pregnancy. If
you want to reduce the foul odour normal showers and
changing of pads, tampons, or cups in time along with
proper upkeep of personal hygiene (both before and during the period) is good
enough to get rid of foul
odour.
