Is Hand Sanitizer Safe for Kids? Dangers of Hand Sanitizer
GOOGLE AD
Recently, an email became viral warning
parents not to use hand sanitizers due to the danger they pose to
children. Hand sanitizers can be dangerous if swallowed, their actual
symptoms from their misuse are extremely rare.
Children who get a chance to “taste” or
a “lick” hand sanitizer experience only mild symptoms. They will not
swallow an amount large enough to produce symptoms. Hand sanitizer when
swallowed gives burning sensation.
But still, there are children who will
drink sanitizer assuming it as something else, no matter how bad it tastes –
and in those cases, alcohol poisoning can
result. This occurs also with mouthwash or perfume is swallowed.

Bottom line
Hand sanitizers are beneficial in one
way for killing germs on hands but it also has potentially poisonous items; so
they should be stored out of the reach of children and should be used according
to the label.
Adults should monitor how it is used by
children to ensure that the proper amount is used and that hands wet with sanitizer
are not put in the mouth.

Remember
1.
Use small containers. If a child only has access to a small bottle
(30mL or less), they are less likely to ingest enough to result in harm
2.
Apply only a dime-sized amount to dry hands
3.
Rub hands completely until dry
4.
Monitor how it is used by children
