This Is Why You Should Sleep on Your Left Side!

If somebody asked you 'What time of the day is your most favourite?' many of you would say night because all of us sleep at that time :p. Sleeping is my favourite thing to do and i bet most of you would second my thoughts.
                                          GOOGLE AD

Some people are deep sleepers and some are cat nappers. Similarly sleeping positions of people also vary from person to person. Some sleep flat on their back and some lie on the belly.

Some sleep on the right and some on the left side of the body. But have you ever wondered what effect these sleeping positions have on your health? Well keep reading to know what happens with your body while you are deep asleep.

All of you must know what side you sleep. So all those sleeping on the left side!! Congrats!! You are so blessed that your body gets better even when you sleep.

Experts advise that the best side to sleep on is the left side. Let us explain why.

1. It may relieve back pain

Do you suffer from back pain? Then changing sides can be a good idea for you. People who suffer from chronic back pain may benefit from switching to left-side sleeping. Sleeping on your left side can relieve pressure from the spine. Feeling more comfortable, in turn, will improve your chances of getting a good night’s sleep.

It bolsters the lymphatic system

Ayurveda says that sleeping on your left side helps your body to filter lymph fluids in a better way and excrete waste via lymph nodes as the left side of our body is the dominant lymphatic side. Western research has also found that sleeping on the left side can help the body filter out all the waste from the brain. Wanna be intelligent?? :p On the contrary, sleeping on your right side can decrease the lymphatic system’s efficiency.

2. It may improve digestion

It is sheer logic that sleeping on left side can increase the efficiency of digestion due to gravity. Specifically, lying on the left side allows food waste to easily move from the large intestine into the descending colon (meaning you’re more likely to have a bowel movement upon waking) which is a good thing as it helps excrete toxins out of the body in a more efficient manner. Sleeping on the left side also allows the stomach and pancreas to hang naturally (our stomach lies on the left side of the body), which helps the enzymes from stomach, liver and pancreas to move efficiently through the digestive system and streamlines the processing of food in system.

3. Prevents snoring

This is one major reason due to which you might be forced to sleep outside your bedroom!! :p or be disturbed constantly from a pleasant sleep(may it be yourself or others) Sleeping on your left slight may actually help you stop snoring.

When you sleep on the left side, your tongue and throat are in a neutral position and your airways are clear for you to breathe easily.

You should also know that sleeping on your back may make it worse as it pushes these muscles to the back of your throat making it difficult for you to breath. Practically choking you in sleep.

4. It’s ideal for pregnant women

Sleeping on the left side does improve pregnant women’s circulation. It also helps to relieve pressure on the back, avoids the uterus from squeezing the liver, and increase blood flow to the uterus, kidneys, and foetus.

For this reason, doctors tend to recommend that pregnant women should spend as much of their sleep time as possible on their left sides.

5. It may reduce heartburn

Most pregnant women suffer from a frequent problem of heartburn. However, adults can also suffer from heartburn and sleeping on the right side can worsen the problem.

Lying on the left side can help reduce acid reflux symptoms. Again this is because our stomach lies on the left side which would mean that the acid would be contained in stomach properly due to gravity and won't bother you all night!! Conversely, lying on the right side may aggravate these symptoms. The effects are fairly immediate and visible; if you are suffering from heartburn after a meal, try lying down on your left side for about 10 minutes. You would notice the symptoms fading away.

If you usually sleep on your back, your front, or your right side, you may wonder how to break to break the ice and start sleeping on your left side.

Here are some tips

1.  If you lie down on your left side and press a body length pillow up against your back, it will stop you from rolling over during the night.

2.  Try switching the side of the bed you sleep on. This will make it easier for you to flip to your other side and have the same great sleep.

3.  Here is another trick. If you keep a dim light lit on your right side, your body would want to be away from it as you sleep as our body is habitual to sleep in the dark. This will make it easier for you to sleep on your left side.
